The recipe is more than 150 years old. Special Sugar Cookies from the Kitchen of Kenneth Jeffcoats: 2/3 cup shortening 3/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 1 egg 4 teaspoons milk 2 cups flour 1&1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt Cream shortening, sugar, vanilla, and almond together. Add egg. Beat until light and fluffy. Stir together dry ingredients. Blend into creamed mixture. Chill dough at least one hour (he always chills his overnight). On lightly floured surface, roll out the cookie dough to 1/8th thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool slightly. Remove from cookie sheet on to wire rack and allow cookies to cool completely. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture this go round. (Since I didn’t have a picture of his, I borrowed this picture. His look very similar to the ones in this picture).
